LUDUS consists of only three cushion parts: a seat cushion, a back cushion and a corner back cushion (otpional) - and a lacquered MDF back part (library). LUDUS affords one a lot of opportunities to sit, lie, play, work or recline. It is up to you. If necessary you can transform it back into a classical club class suite for more serious purposes or, with the arrangement of seat cushions, you can make it into a bed, if your friends really don't want to leave.

The back part incorporates a library shelf, which can serve as a practical storage space for books or all other items you need. It all makes for a delightful cozy corner in your home.

The seat cushions and the libraries are connected and fixed through connectors which are placed invisible under the libraries. With their soft surface the connectors also act as contact area/foot between the library and the floor to protect both. So you can enjoy living with LUDUS without slipping cushions and scratched floors.

"Studio Jo Meesters launched "Odds and Ends, Bits and Pieces" at last month's Dutch Design Week, a collection of four pieces made entirely from 34 discarded wooden beams and 16 leftover blankets. The ongoing experimental project TESTLAB aims to reuse discarded materials by combing craftsmanship with mass production techniques to create new types of furniture.

The basic principle in Jo Meester's work is sustainability. By integrating various aspects of craftsmanship, sophistication, and detailing, Meesters aims to imbue his projects and products with an emotional value. In this way, he puts emphasis on his commitment to the creation and perception of a bond between object and user." added on 2008-11-09

"These gorgeous pieces of FSC certified wooden furniture were created by German design company Woodloops. Founded in 2003 by product designer/carpenter Rene Mueller and forester Nina Griesshammer, Woodloops strives to "covey our original views to common behaviors, weaving known circumstances into new and curious concepts". We love the way their furnishings celebrate the integrity of raw materials, showcasing the wood grain and unique features of each piece.

For the past five years Woodloops has been working on environmental projects, at exhibitions and product launches. They are a member of the German Forest Stewardship Council, and their work is governed by a strong sustainable ethos. Woodloops specially selects certified timbers for their distinctive age markings and warm colors, and each piece is finished with natural oil and wax. The idea of putting books in a box is usually annoying: they get filled with dust, if you're searching for a specific title you have to turn the box upside down to find it, and the boxes usually end up in a high shelve that you never look at.

The Pocket-Library, however, has a very simple organization with straps that keeps the books organized, it unfolds into vertical panes where you can easily scan for a book, and has small castors that make it easy to move around. "London-based Levitate Architects came up with this ingenious solution to a book storage problem and created a loft-like bedroom nestled under the roof of the top-floor apartment. Here is what Levitate's Tim Sloan had to say about the project:

The flat occupies part of the shared top floor of an existing Victorian mansion block. Our proposal extended the flat into the unused loft space above, creating a new bedroom level and increasing the floor area of the flat by approximately one third. We created a 'secret' staircase, hidden from the main reception room, to access a new loft bedroom lit by roof lights. Limited by space, we melded the idea of a staircase with our client's desire for a library to form a library staircase in which English oak stair treads and shelves are both completely lined with books. With a skylight above lighting the staircase, it becomes the perfect place to stop and browse a tome. The stair structure was designed as an upside down 'sedan chair' structure (with Rodrigues Associates, Structural Engineers, London) that carries the whole weight of the stair and books back to the main structural walls of the building. It dangles from the upper floor thereby avoiding any complicated neighbour issues with the floors below." added on 2008-10-09
